History of Calvary Chapel Venice

Our Foundation...

In 1965, Pastor Chuck Smith began his ministry at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa with just 25 people. From the beginning, Pastor Chuck welcomed all, young and old, without judgment, placing his emphasis on the teaching of the Word of God. His simple, yet sound, biblical approach drew 25,000 people weekly.

With a sincere concern for the lost, Pastor Chuck made room in his heart and his home for a generation of hippies and surfers, generating a movement of the Holy Spirit that spread from the West Coast to the East Coast, and now, throughout the world. What began as a small local church has now grown into an international ministry of over 1,800 fellowships throughout the world.

Our Founders...

The history of Calvary Chapel Venice all started with two simple servants, Bob and Barbara Wulfing. The Wulfing’s were called to Venice to teach the Bible and bless the community in March 1999 and they have done just that!

Their legacy of service has brought hope to many and has been instrumental in shaping the vibrant faith community that exists today. From Sunday services to Bible studies, the Wulfing’s have been a steady and reliable presence in the lives of so many here in Venice.

We thank the Wulfing’s for their dedication,  commitment, and  sensitivity to the Spirit to allow the work to continue on!

Our Focus...

Our new senior pastor Mark Bofill and his wife Mary come to us from Southern California, where they were saved and first started attending Calvary Chapel Pasadena. After several years, they served with Calvary Chapel West Covina as Pastor Mark graduated from Calvary Chapel, Bible College in Golden Springs, Ca.

Mark and Mary then ventured out to Colorado Springs, where both served on staff for 15 years at Calvary Worship Center with Pastor Al Pittman.

In June 2022, God called Mark and Mary to pray about a pastorate position, and God opened an effective door for a ministry here at Calvary Chapel Venice. We look forward to the great things that God is going to do in our community.
