The power of the cross

WHAT IS IT?

It is the most important symbol in the world today!

You may have landed on this site after seeing a simple white cross in the yard of a neighbor
or somewhere else which looks like this:

This cross represents the price that Jesus Christ paid for our Sin!
Those who are willing to accept God’s free gift can spend eternal life with Him in glory!

"For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing,
but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."
I Corinthians 1:18

Let’s back up a bit... You may have thought, what happens when I die?  Is there a Heaven?  Is there a Hell?
If Heaven is as glorious as they say, how can I get there? What is heaven like?

The Bible, which is the holy Word of God, describes it as a place of peace, joy and praise:

“Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple.  And He who sits on the throne will dwell among them.  They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters.  And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
Revelation 7:15-17

If there is a reward for God’s children in heaven, what is the punishment for those who reject God?

“They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord
and from the glory of His might.”  2 Thessalonians 1:9

This is an everlasting punishment, which doesn’t stop.

So, how do I become a child of God and spend eternity with Him in heaven?

First let’s understand what all humans on earth face...

  • Do you know "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God" Rom. 3:23?  We have all sinned and done things which violate God's standard of holiness.  No one is innocent.  God’s standard of holiness is so high, we would have to be perfect to meet it.

  • What are the consequences of sin?  "For the wages of sin is death" Rom. 6:23a.  So our punishment is both physical and spiritual (eternal) death.  Eternal death is hell.  So according to God, there is absolutely NOTHING you can do on your own to save yourself.

  • But there is great news!  "...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Rom. 6:23b.  "...but God demonstrates his own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Rom. 5:8.
God's gift to us (a GIFT, one which is impossible for us to purchase or earn) is eternal life through God's son Jesus' death on the cross and resurrection.

Since Jesus is God’s only Son and He lived a perfect life,
His death on the cross is the only way that a righteous judge [God] could accept payment for our sins.
